Building confidence with words
Discover our range of fun and empowering workshops for young people of all ages and abilities
Welcome to The Story Works
Our mission is to help young people in Dorset build confidence in themselves and their own voice by providing them with the space and creative tools to tap into their imagination and tell stories in their own unique way.
Creative writing has the power to change lives. When young people experience their voice being heard, seen and valued, they develop the confidence to seize opportunities and achieve their true potential.

What we do
Testimonials
The children attending were all siblings of children with disabilities. Most are registered young carers and some of them have anxiety issues and lack in confidence, but the volunteer students were all lovely and engaged the children really well, making sure everyone was able to contribute. The children really enjoyed the session and went home 'buzzing' about it. They would love to do it again.
Dorset Childrens Foundation
The workshop was incredibly well tailored to those who chose to attend and was in tune with their hobbies and passions. We would like to extend a huge thank you on behalf of the young carers that attended and another dose of gratitude on behalf of the team at MYTIME.
MyTime Young Carers
The session was perfectly pitched for their age group and the superhero theme was really well received; the children were all buzzing with ideas that they couldn't wait to get down on paper. Those that struggled a little with the writing side of things were quickly identified by the volunteers and given a little extra support. Every one of them left with a story in their hands that they could proudly show off!
Dorset Childrens Foundation
The volunteers were tremendous with the children, resulting in 30 happy, enthused children. The volunteers took the time to talk to every child and shared their interests and their career journey which fascinated so many of our children.
Sandford Primary
It was incredible to see how well-planned and engaging the session was, especially considering it was their first time running it. My students had a fantastic time and truly enjoyed the experience. Their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the activity were a testament to the effort and dedication put into the event. It was a wonderful opportunity, and we truly appreciate it!
