Welcome to The Story Works

Our mission is to help people in Dorset discover the power of their own voice, because we believe that everyone has a voice worth hearing.

Through creative workshops, we give children, teens and adults the pressure-free space, support and imaginative tools to express themselves with confidence. Whether they are creating new characters, inventing worlds, or sharing their own lived experiences, we give everybody the tools and encouragement to realise that their words matter and that their stories deserve to be told. When young people especially feel heard, seen and valued, their stories become a source of strength — opening doors, building resilience and helping them realise their true potential.

The children attending were all siblings of children with disabilities. Most are registered young carers and some of them have anxiety issues and lack in confidence, but the volunteer students were all lovely and engaged the children really well, making sure everyone was able to contribute. The children really enjoyed the session and went home 'buzzing' about it. They would love to do it again.

The workshop was incredibly well tailored to those who chose to attend and was in tune with their hobbies and passions. We would like to extend a huge thank you on behalf of the young carers that attended and another dose of gratitude on behalf of the team at MYTIME.

I learned that when you use your imagination you can write the most amazing things. I had a very happy day and enjoyed the writing part the most.

The session was perfectly pitched for their age group and the superhero theme was really well received; the children were all buzzing with ideas that they couldn't wait to get down on paper. Those that struggled a little with the writing side of things were quickly identified by the volunteers and given a little extra support. Every one of them left with a story in their hands that they could proudly show off!

The volunteers were tremendous with the children, resulting in 30 happy, enthused children. The volunteers took the time to talk to every child and shared their interests and their career journey which fascinated so many of our children.

It was incredible to see how well-planned and engaging the session was, especially considering it was their first time running it. My students had a fantastic time and truly enjoyed the experience. Their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the activity were a testament to the effort and dedication put into the event. It was a wonderful opportunity, and we truly appreciate it!
