As a not-for-profit organisation, The Story Works relies on the support, enthusiasm and hard work of an amazing team of volunteers. It takes a diverse set of people with a range of different skills to make our vision a reality.

The Story Works is a literacy charity that relies on an amazing team of volunteers.   If you have a little free time on your hands and you’d like to get involved with what we do, we’d love to welcome you on board. No matter where your skills and interests lie, we’ll have a role that suits you!

In return for volunteering with us, we can offer you:

  • Opportunities to meet new people and make friends.
  • Increased confidence.
  • The chance to gain and develop new skills in areas that interest you.
  • Full Health & Safety and Safeguarding training, an Enhanced DBS check, and other free training opportunities to support you in your role.
  • Provision of references, if needed.
  • The satisfaction of knowing that you’re helping to make a positive difference to young people and families in your community!


WHAT WE ASK OF YOU AS A VOLUNTEER:

  • That you have lots of enthusiasm and a drive to make a difference
  • You make a commitment to a minimum of 6 sessions of some kind within the first 6 months.
  • You support our mission and values.
  • All volunteers need to undertake the induction and will be buddied by another mentor in the first instance.
  • All volunteers need to have an up-to-date DBS certificate (see below).


IN RETURN THE STORY WORKS WILL:

  • Provide training and support to help you to learn new skills.
  • Take you through, and fund your DBS (previously CRB) registration.
  • Make sure that The Story Works is a fun place to work. We take fun very seriously.
  • Value your time and commitment to us.
  • Support you to achieve personal goals.
